Is it common for the VA to misdiagnose people in relation to mental
health issues? And is it common for them to prescribe medications to
these people that do more harm (such as brain damage) than good?

I don't have any experience with the VA, but I was misdiagnosed by one
private doctor and developed diabetes from the use of seroquel while
under the care of another private doctor. I think mental health
professionals in general don't understand bipolar nearly as much as
they want the public to believe.
