Hi,

Does anyone where they live have places for people who have a mental
health condtion to hang out?

I was at a NAMI conference not too long ago. This lady from Southern
California was telling us, they have these club houses.

The clients can get all types of help with filling out papers and they
do things, like going to movies, sports events, etc.

Maybe, you know of places like this, even if they are not close to you.

Hey, I'm from Kansas City, MO, and there's a kind of hangout called The
Place-you can go in, have coffee (Starbucks donates), paint, read, play
games, talk, whatever...it's at 43rd and Walnut. It's mainly for the
people at a nearby halfway house, but anyone is welcome.

day treatment (or psychosocial rehabilitation)at mental health
providers' facilities is helpful for
many-fellowship,activities,(usually) paraprofessionals trying to be
helpful,at least minimal supervision or security. One could make
friends, but personally I would discourage seeking romance
there(somebody has to be stable some of the time)but it might be
different for you.Hope you find a compatible friendly place.Harry

Check to see if there is a DBSA chapter there. That stands for
Depressive and Bipolar Support Association. It's was started some ten
or more years ago, and is now not only nation wide, but has chapters
outside the US.

I went through a really really hard time when I was homeless. This
group really helped me get through it, and even though I can't go as
often as I used to, I go when I can. I've been involved with county
sponsered support groups, but there is always the lurking wonder if
they are *really* as confidential as they sound. DBSA uses group
leaders, and notes for the day are taken, but then destroyed. I feel
confident that what I say truely stays there.

It's also a chance to socialize with people who understand you. We go
out to lunch after the meeting and there are people to call if you need
a helping hand.

I'm not sure the url of the website, but I think if you search on DBSA
you can find a location.

Hope this helps.
