Post by TCPost by On the Road to DamascusPost by TCSo, I have officially gone and got some help. I even got a prescription.
So, I am now on the hunt to find discounts. I was wondering if anyone
has any experience or suggestions with on line pharmacies, prescription
assistance plans or anything thoughts on the subject.
Thank you

Google "patient assistance program"
for more specific results, search for the name of the drug
manufacturer along with the term "patient assistance" or words to that
effect, or just go to the manufacturers website and poke around until
you find their program
online pharmacy is the last resort and you are still talking big
bucks, of course you can get anything you want that way short of
cocaine and heroin by filling out the online questionnaire to get a
prescription without physically seeing a doctor
That's what I have been doing. Actually, I've been switching between
looking for PAPs and different pharmacies. Actually, my Doc suggested
looking for online pharmacies and Canada. I thought the PAP was a good
idea. Now, I'm looking for suggestions from those with some experience.
Well, my experience is that before I signed up for the stupid Medicare
Part D plan I got ALL my psychiatric meds free or in one case with a
$2 co pay. Your doctor (more likely his staff) will have to fill out
some forms and make some calls to set things up, but it's no big deal.
Virtually all meds available in the US can be obtained this way. If
you don't have a job decent enough to provide good insurance then most
likely your income is low enough to qualify for every plan.
If on the other hand you have a good income through self employment or
other means but have failed to obtain decent insurance for yourself,
you have a problem. Drugs under patent protection are very expensive,
and some of those drugs are only slightly cheaper after they become
generic. I would be surprised if you could obtain drugs from a
reputable online pharmacy for as much as 20% off, and 20% off a hell
of a lot of money is still a hell of a lot of money. An independent
local pharmacist would probably give you the same discount if you
explained your situation.
Be aware that online pharmacies are one of the greatest scams out
there, or else they wouldn't be advertised by spam so extensively. If
the price is really great then the drugs are probably knock offs from
China or India and who knows what the quality is. Some scams are easy
to spot...the words on the website are misspelled and the grammar is
all wrong. But a smart scammer will hire someone who actually knows
English well to set things up.
As far as physically going to Canada or Mexico, the overall savings
are not going to be as great as all the sensational reports in the
media would have you believe. Prices near the border will be jacked
up, and you have to take into consideration the value of the time you
spend traveling there as well as transportation costs.
