Hi,
Is anybody else searching for work after being on disability? I have
been disabled by the bipolar illness for 5 years. I am doing better
now. I finally found a drug combination that works for me. I am
sensitive about my work history. I have some work failures before I
went on disability 5 years ago. I just finished my coursework in
biotechnology a month ago. I did really well in my program. I am
wondering if I could find an employer that will give me a chance.
Also, my credit history is terrible from the manic spending sprees I
went on. I am trying to correct the problem by making payment
arrangements with the credit card companies. Does anyone have ideas as
to how to break into the job market after being gone for so long?

Update your resume first. Instead of chronological one, try a skills
based one. List your skills, then you jobs with the most basic info,
employer, city, job title, dates worked, list education last, unless
your education is you most recent venture. Skip the personal data and
the why I want this job.

I don't do stress well so going back into the job market is a no no.

Now there's a smart lady.

Okay here is what to do...
You have 5 years to make up right? I am certain that you have a prof or
a friend in their own business who can give you a reference as a
consultant...5 years...just went Poooof!

Relative to credit history...blame it on your husband...and now you are
the bread winner of the family then present your degree.

If you are in Calif. or another high tech town..I rekon you have no
worries at all. Just apply.

PS. As far as making full payments to the credit card companies..it's
just like the IRS. Hook up with one of the FREE (not for pay) credit
councilors in your neck of the woods and have them negotiate the debt
down..Yes I know there is ego involved but the illness is involved too.
Give yourself a break that the mental illness system will not give you.
I applaud you for making such strides but ego aside, take advantage of
what the system might offer you. After all, do you really deserve 19 to
21 % on those cards...Me, I think not...up to you though.

latez kid,

Best Wishes To you! I was not able to complete high school, but I did
go to college and I have been a licensed social worker for a year now.
Anything is possible; you CAN do this. Keep faith.
